Hickory motor speedway - Race #3
This weekend I was determined to bounce back and finally put together the results I knew we were capable of after the last race. I had spent the entire week working hard to come back stronger, learn from my mistakes, and apply everything I’ve been improving on.
Qualifying is still something I’m learning every single weekend in these cars. We ended up P9 to start the race. Even though it wasn’t the qualifying result I wanted, I felt confident heading into the race because I knew we had speed after being P6 in Practice 1 and P3 in Practice 2.
Our night started to unravel early after getting taken out and sent to the rear on lap 3. The contact damaged my rim and caused a flat left rear tire, forcing us to pit for a new tire. At that point, I was determined to fight our way back through the field because I knew we had a fast race car.
We fought our way back quickly, making up four spots in just five laps and building serious momentum toward the front. The car was fast, and I could feel the race coming back toward us.
Then, before we had the chance to show what we really had, we got collected in another incident with nowhere to go on lap 8, ending our race prematurely.
What’s happened has happened, and all we can do now is take as many lessons as possible from it, keep learning, and work even harder to come back stronger next time.
After spending most of my racing career focused on road course racing, I still have a lot to learn when it comes to short track racing. Every difficult weekend is another opportunity to learn, grow, and come back better than we were the race before. I truly believe our time is coming.
Huge thank you to MKM Racing Development for giving me such a fast race car and continuing to support me through tough weekends like these. It means a lot to have people around me who believe in what we’re building even when the results don’t show it yet.
I also want to thank my sponsors — Coble Commercial Properties, Card Gorilla, Palmetto Galleries, and Shift Up Now — for continuing to believe in me and make opportunities like this possible.
